What is the Carrousel?
A pioneer of youth film festivals in North America and the francophonie, the Carrousel international du film de Rimouski has succeeded in carving out its place in the national and international scene. It distinguishes itself from other children’s film festivals by offering films that also target adolescents and that spotlight young characters.
Today, the Carrousel’s programming is built in three large sections: children, adolescent and young adult. The festival shows long and short fiction, documentary, animation and experimental films.
Far from being confined to movies prescribed for a certain age group, the Carrousel international du film de Rimouski adopts as its duty to explore the curiosity and open-mindedness of a young audience and to question the issues and filmmaking practices of the time in which youth here and abroad are evolving.
What does youth cinema mean?
Youth cinema is the cornerstone of the Carrousel’s programming, and it’s through this that we choose our films. Far from being univocal, the concept of youth cinema combines movies that could interest children, adolescents and young adults. It can address themes related to youth and showcase emerging talent It also does not hesitate to explore the unknown and put forward an innovative attitude.
